Grady Douglas Owen

Grady Owens was just a typical 22-year-old from Blanco, Texas, a rural town about an hour west of Austin. He was going to school and studying media in Orlando at the private university, Full Sail. He loved skateboarding and hanging with his friends. Life was good. Things were falling into place for Grady then… along came the 2020 election.

He was upset and had long talks with his father Jason, often far into the night.  They were highly suspicious about the duplicitous media, the fraudulent voting, and overnight surges for a candidate that was losing. It just didn’t add up to a fair election.  He and his father both had no quarrel with Biden being elected, they just wanted it to be fair. And from what they could see, it was not.  They decided to attend the Save The Steal rallies in Washington, D.C. and try to force Congress to investigate, slow down the electoral vote certification, as has been done in the past.  But Congress was in no mood to slow anything because the establishment politicians, on both sides of the isle, loathed President Trump.

After the speeches Grady and his father headed towards the Capitol.  Both sides squared off for a fight. Police, ready for a full-scale riot, badly overreacted and started lobbing flash bangs, tear gas and rubber bullets that can damage human tissue almost as badly as a bullet.  These were their fellow countryman but, they had their orders.  The police were aggressive.  The Grady was scared and, although he’d always respected the ‘men in blue’, he used what he had on him to fight back – a skateboard.  He hit an officer in the head, who had a helmet on and from all reports, no injuries were sustained. Still, he was now in hot water for assaulting an officer.  Other than that, Grady did not enter that Capital building or do much else.

He and his dad left soon after and returned home.  Grady went back to Orlando and his studies at Full Sail, and Jason back to Blanco.  About four months later however, Grady was back at school when police and federal agents came for an abrupt visit. He was arrested on April 1st, 2021, but this was no April Fool’s joke.  He was taken into custody on both felony and misdemeanor charges, including illegally entered the Capitol grounds, assaulting a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct.

Little is known or reported after the arrest.  One can only assume he was stashed in the American Gulag as most of the J6ers and left to languish until his trial.  But his youth may have worked for him, however details are scant.  Though this is clear, he pleaded guilty to the felony charge to avoid a lengthy and expensive trial.  Then came the sentencing – on Feb. 24, 2023.

U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell, Grady was sentenced to 37 months in prison, two years of supervised release, restitution of $2000, $110 special assessment, and a $1,000 fine.  He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds and was sentenced to 6 months in prison concurrent to his 37-month sentence. His father got a lesser sentence for reasons unknown but one can speculate the using the skateboard was the determining factor.

Write to encourage Grady that his life will go on after his sentence. Pray for a pardon to be exonerated.
