Kevin Lyons

40-year-old Kevin Lyons was living in the Gladstone Park neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago in 2021. It was that fateful year when he – along with millions of others – thought the election was fishy at best if not downright fraudulent.  Kevin was a hardworking, blue-collar guy whom the bluebloods of Chicago depended on; a top-notch heating and air conditioning technician.  He drove through the night from Chicago to Washington, D.C., to attend the ‘Stop the Steal’ rally.  There, he became even more upset at what was being reported.  More evidence.  More stories from eye witnesses. It was clear to him and the entire crowd that some of shenanigans where; Republican vote counters were locked out, windows were papered over and more, smacked of cheating.  They would not take it lying down, especially after the media and elitist had just spent a four-year non-stop assault on the President’s character.

Kevin, made his way to the capital and walked inside without incident.  A handful of protestors were led down the hall by likely (according to congressman Clay Higgins) an FBI agent dressed as a Trump supporter, to Nancy Pelosi’s office.   Walking down the halls, Kevin was shouting, “Nancy, where are you?” Some of Pelosi’s staffers were hiding in a nearby office, locked and barricaded.  Kevin got to her office and allegedly took a sentimental framed photo of Speaker Pelosi’s with the late Congressman John Lewis on a trip to Africa. He also admitted to taking a wallet that belonged to one of the staffers, something he truly regretted later – and returned – money and all contents intact.

Lyons left the office a few minutes later when FBI agents and Capitol Police arrived, guns drawn, and ordered everybody to leave.  Kevin went home, but it wasn’t over as he made the fatal mistake of taking selfies and videos of his adventures.  He went home to his two sons and home in the suburbs and was arrested a week later.

He was arraigned and charged with several counts but the most serious was ‘Obstruction of Congress’, alleging that he was there to stop the electoral vote count.  He was not however charged with the theft of the photo, as no evidence of Pelosi’s photo was found. No evidence, no crime but police are convinced he has it hidden somewhere.

On July 14, 2023 Kevin appeared before U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell to state his case.  He agreed to a ‘bench trial’, where it is decided by the judge and not a jury.  This is common when defendants agree to plead guilty.  Judge Howell sentenced Lyons to four years and three months in prison followed by two years of supervised release. And since his crimes were non-violent in nature, Kevin was allowed to remain free until he must report to prison.  He hoped to be out sooner with good behavior but Federal prison sentences don’t work that way. He’s in for good unless his attorney’s appeal or a pardon is offered Kevin will be behind bars until April 12, 2027.  Kevin has two young boys at home who need their Dad.

Pray for Kevin and write to him with words of encouragement.
